Common Questions

Frequently asked questions about Australia

Answers to the questions we hear most about Australia travel.

Australia's seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. December through February is Australian summer—ideal for Sydney, Melbourne, and Tasmania. May through October is the dry season in the north, which is the best time for the Great Barrier Reef and the Outback. September through November is a great all-around time to visit most regions.

We recommend a minimum of 10-14 days to cover the highlights without feeling rushed. Two weeks lets you combine Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, and either Melbourne or the Outback. If you want to add Tasmania or New Zealand, plan for 3 weeks. The long flight from North America makes it worth staying longer to justify the journey.

Flights from the US typically range from $1,000-$2,000 per person round trip. Mid-range hotels average $150-$300 per night, while luxury lodges like Southern Ocean Lodge or Longitude 131 start at $1,000+ per night. A well-planned 2-week trip runs $5,000-$10,000 per person including flights, accommodation, and experiences. We help maximize your budget at every level.

Many of our travelers do. New Zealand is just a 3-hour flight from Sydney and offers a completely different experience—dramatic fjords, adventure sports, and geothermal wonders. If you have 3 weeks, a combo trip works beautifully. If you only have 2 weeks, we often recommend focusing on one country and saving the other for a return trip.

Australia is vast—the size of the continental United States—and internal flights, seasonal differences between regions, and accommodation availability make planning tricky. We know which domestic routes to book, how to sequence your itinerary to avoid backtracking, and which experiences are worth the splurge. Our relationships with luxury lodges and tour operators also give us access to upgrades and perks you won't find online.

Major cities have excellent public transport, but for the Great Ocean Road, wine regions, and the Outback, you'll want a rental car or organized tours. Internal flights connect Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, and Uluru efficiently. We build itineraries that minimize unnecessary travel time and include pre-arranged transfers so logistics feel effortless.
